Remember expressions have no equal signs and cannot be solved. Three bunches of bananas plus three loose bananas could be written as the expression 3b + 3. But expressions can’t be solved without more information, for example we’d need to know:
- There’s four bananas in every bunch: 3(4) + 3 = 12 + 3 = 15
- Or the total number of bananas is fifteen: 3b + 3 = 15. 3b = 12. b = 4
