1/12: Bring a well-rested brain and a good attitude to the final exam in A101 on Friday, January, 19 from 7:30 to 9:30. Be ready to submit your best portfolio at the end of the exam period. We will have laptops.

1/3: (#2) Spend 20 minutes completing your writing sample. If it’s done, spend 20 minutes writing/revising your portfolio letter start or your short story. Leave evidence in your journal (different color for new additions?).
1/2: (#1) Spend 20 minutes adding specific examples (quotes, images, sections, etc.) your portfolio letter or revising one of your new selections. Leave evidence in your journal (different color for new additions?). Or spend 20 minutes planning for your timed write tomorrow( PETmdWrtgPrmpts).

Week of 12/18

12/21: (#7) Finish revising your short story and bring four copies in tomorrow for proofreading groups.
12/20: (#6) Finish revising your short story.
12/18: (#5) Spend 20 minutes improving the DADI (Description, Action, Dialogue and Inner monologue) mix of your story. For most o you that means adding little bits of description of the characters and environment throughout the story. Also, most inner monologue would be better as dialogue.

Week of 12/11

12/14: (#4) Finish your story draft and re-share it with me by 7:30 tomorrow morning so I can make copies for sharing it in class.
12/13: (#3) Spend 15 more minutes on your story adding descriptions of the environment that help reveal the character’s predicament add texture to the middle of the story.
12/12: (#2) Spend 15 more minutes on your “Reunion” story adding complications or obstacle to add texture to the middle of the story.
12/11: (#1) Spend 15 more minutes on your “Reunion” story or complete your list of ten possible feature article ideas.

12/7: (#12) Spend 15 more minutes on your “Reunion” story or working on another story draft.
12/6: (#11) Spend 15 more minutes on your “Reunion” story or working on another story draft.
12/5: (#10) Spend 15 more minutes on your “Reunion” story or working on another story draft.
12/4: (#9) Spend 15 more minutes either adding to your list of story ideas, beginning a draft of one of those ideas or working on another story draft.

11/28: (#7) Spend fifteen to twenty minutes developing a story draft.

11/15: (#5) Write a poem using some of the topics, forms, strategies and/or techniques we’ve looked at in class (poems shapes, sensory descriptions, litanies, metaphor, memory poems, etc).
11/14: (#4) Write another ode.
11/13: (#3) Write another sound poem. Try to have it make only sound sense.

10/19: (#5) Spend at least 20 minutes developing the research base for your position papers.  Conduct a survey or an interview, find a personal story to make the problem vivid to a reader, find a powerful statistic or expert quote, explain a current event that puts the issue in context, etc.
10/18: (#4) Choose a different position paper topic and spend 20 minutes developing a draft.
10/16: (#3) Spend 20 minutes writing an Instant Draft of one of your position paper ideas.

Week of 10/10

10/12: (#2) Spend 20 minutes revising your personal essay. If you’re done revising, spend 20 minutes developing a draft of a position paper.
10/10: (#1) Make a list of 10 possible fresh topics for your position paper.  Next to each item, list examples, arguments, reasons, etc. you might use in each essay.

Week of 10/2

10/5: (#13) Prepare your essay in order to share a final draft tomorrow.
10/2: (#12) Cut 100 words from the middle of your personal essay.

Week of 9/25

9/28: (#11) Write about your topic in a different form (a rap, a cartoon, a recipe, etc: Forms4Writing).
9/26: (#10: Again) Reread your best personal essay draft and pick three things you’d like to get feedback on. (For example, you might be worried about the conclusion or the title or the concision.) Re-share your personal essay with me with a comment on the top listing those three areas.

Week of 9/11

9/14: No homework
9/13: (#7) Make a list of ten possible titles for your essay.
9/12: (#6) Think of someone you are close to or admire. Think of an object you associate with that person (a car, a pipe, a hand bag, a hat, etc.) Spend ten minutes describing that object using sensory details (colors, shapes, dimensions, sounds, smells, textures, etc.) Create a vivid picture using only words.

Week of 9/5

9/7:(#5) Write three more sensory descriptions but use all the senses this time: Sound, smell, touch, taste and sight. Avoid metaphor, summary, judgment, explanation – just sensory details.
9/6:(#4) Write down three writing goals for yourself for the semester and two learning goals.
9/5: (#3) Write three detailed descriptions starting with “I see…”  or “I saw….” (Sensory Desc).  Use only visual descriptions and do not use metaphor or interpretation.

8/31: (#2) Choose an animal you think you are like and an animal you’d like to be more like. Explain each choice.
